Established in 1977 IT Tralee is a key driver of economic and social development in Kerry & Tralee as a base for over 3000 students and 350 staff.
The latest capital project, the development of a €15m Sports academy will allow people, able and disabled, to enjoy, prepare and compete to the highest standards. The academy has been designed to address the needs of Paralympic level athletes, as well as opening-up opportunities to sports and recreation.
The development will be home to IT Health & Leisure Programmes; UNESCO Chair; CARA; Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri.
The building consisted of 2-storey teaching and performance area wrapping around the sports hall (65m x 35m) on three sides. Within this an adapted physical activity pool, ice bath and recovery area with associated changing rooms constructed.
Main roofing consisted of large clear span truss roofs with exposed curved rolled steel over the double height pool area.
